Note cut off on FS1R synth

Note cut off on FS1R synth

Postby PiersW » 10 May 2013, 16:54

I don't know whether this is a copperlan or an al88 issue but I think its one of the two. Whenever I play a note on the Yamaha fs!R synth the notes cut off prematurely, no sustain no release. Variable lengths if the key's held down long enough. 2-3 seconds. I plugged an Evolver keyboard direct into the FS1R and it worked fine. then routed the Evolver via copperlan and and al88 and the problem occured. Had thought it was the Daw, or the Novation Keyboard or a hardware problem but I think by this process of deduction I have narrowed it down. Any ideas please?

BTW just to add that this didn't happen either on my old pc which I have replaced and it might well be since I uploaded the new firmware to the al88 but to be honest A had thought it was everything but the midi set up until now so I can't remember exactly when it started happening. I was also getting a lot of weird delay or note hold up particularly on this synth and thought it to be Studio one causing it and contacted their customer support and solved that by reducing the buffer size. This in the hope that it might inform you as I am technically weak, so realize this may be irrelevent.

Hi,

You said "...this didn't happen either on my old pc which I have replaced and it might well be since I uploaded the new firmware to the al88..."

How did you upgrade the firmware? was it through the CopperLan Manager or using a tool provided by Alyseum?

Can you check the current version of CopperLan you are running? (CopperLan Manager, About). If it is not 1.1(3), please install the latest package available from our web site. It will also perform automatically an upgrade of the AL-88 firmware (you just have to agree). If you are using several computers, please ensure that each of them is updated.

Additionally, do you see the AL-88 "blinking" on the CopperLan Manager's Overview tab when the issue occurs?

1.1(3) on both pc's. No blinking. On the al88 midi indicator there is no blinking when the note audibly cuts off before the note off is triggered. that happens at the right time.I updated the firmware from copperlan a couple of days ago. Hope this helps.

There is a new option in the AL-88: the active sensing can be turned on/off. Can you check if this is relevant?

You can access to this option through the CopperLan Manager -> Edit -> AL-88

No problem :D

I have no AL-88 right here, so it's quite difficult to guide you. But I think that the active sensing on/off parameter is located behind the MIDI Out * device. So you have to select one of the MIDI Out item and you would see it.
