Support for CP Plug-ins

Support for CP Plug-ins

Wouldn't it be great if 3rd-party developers could develop plug-ins for CopperLan that are automatically loaded on start-up? These could be used for data transformations for example.
Simple plug-in won't even need a GUI if they have only simple settings that can be modified with the CopperLan Manager (as it's done for the settings of the Alyseum devices for instance).

Maybe the CopperPlug MIDI Target definition files could also be handled as plug-ins so that they are automatically available when you're booting your system.

Even better if you could define if a plug-in is automatically loaded or only on demand (only when needed) :)

Yes indeed, this is absolutely possible. We did it for validation a few years ago as pure software, but also into an embedded system. We made a USB hardware arpaggiator able to automatically insert itself between a keyboard and a synth by changing itself the connections as soon it is connected to a computer. It's also possible to imagine pedals with Ethernet connector doing music data transformation, or a software simulating a rack able to host several data transformation modules, or...

This idea of creating small applications very specific to this or this feature is a great idea. You can then connect them creating unlimited patching like you can do with a modular synth.

Such development is not so complicated. Really. The SDK is available from our web site, let's go! :-)

Yeah :)
So can I already tell CopperLan to load my own software module on start-up or do you have to add this to the SDK and/or CP Manager?

We don't provide any software module loader for the moment.

This is something we can do, but are already overbooked so we prefer to push it in the hands of a 3rd party software developer. We can provide full support of course, but our to-do list is already too long so we can't take in charge an additional free software.

BTW it's quite easy to launch a software at startup (even on Mac and PC). It can be a first step to the complete solution that would be able to restore several configurations of running apps depending on Snapshot files.
